Succesful first Peer-to-Peer event in project BIS

af | sep 12, 2019

Last week, Symbiosis Center Denmark, Kalundborg Symbiosis and Ressource City in Næstved hosted the first peer-to-peer event under our Interreg Baltic Sea Region project Baltic Industrial Symbiosis (BIS). The purpose of the event was to establish peer-to-peer exchange, whereby the project partners could benefit from experience exchange and mutual learning on industrial symbiosis facilitation. The event was attended by our project partners from Paper Province (SE), Digipolis (FI), Trøndelag County Council (NO), Tillväxtverket (SE), Gdansk University of Technology (PL), Linköping University (SE), Roskilde University (DK), Tyreman Group (RU), Saint-Petersburg Cleantech Cluster for urban environment (RU) and external stakeholders.

Day 1: The project partners from six countries around the Baltic Sea were welcomed at Symbiosis Center Denmark in Kalundborg. Per Møller, Head of Center, presented the program and practicalities of the event.

Day 2: We started the day at Kalundborg Utility with a pre-screening of secondary resource streams. Afterwards, the group visited Gyproc Saint-Gobain’s production plant in Kalundborg, where an open-screening using a screening tool was performed. It entailed a debate of the resource streams going in and out of the plant followed by a tour of the facilities.

Day 3: The event was hosted by Ressource city in Næstved. The day was started by Michael Elgaard and Søren Nielsen with an interesting introduction about their project organisation with focus on circular economy followed by a tour at Reiling Glasrecycling and Ardagh Glass’s production facilities in Næstved. Then we were taken on a guided afternoon walking tour in Næstved City.

Day 4: We spent the day in Kalundborg holding a workshop about a new Symbiosis Readiness Level scale that Symbiosis Center Denmark is currently developing. It entailed a lot of very useful inputs from the workshop participants.

Day 5: On the last day of the peer-to-peer event, the partners met at Symbiosis Center Denmark to share their experiences on the event and discuss future action plans under the project.

We want to thank all our project partners for a very productive, inspirational and beneficial week spent together experiencing and learning on industrial symbiosis facilitation.
